Legal & tax disclosures.
We take seriously the trust you place in us. This page explains the legal structure of Friends of Ntshongweni Mission, Inc., our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, and what you can expect when you give.
Friends-of structure
Friends of Ntshongweni Mission, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of the State of Florida. Its Employer Identification Number is 42-3267759. It operates as a “friends of” organization, meaning its primary purpose is to receive tax-deductible contributions (under IRC Section 170) from U.S. donors and use those funds to support the charitable, educational, and religious programs of the Ntshongweni mission in South Africa.
The South African mission itself is not a U.S. 501(c)(3) organization. The U.S. corporation is a separate legal entity with its own board, bank account, and financial oversight, established to protect donors and ensure accountable stewardship of gifts.
501(c)(3) status
Friends of Ntshongweni Mission, Inc. has been determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRS determination letter dated August 17, 2026). The organization is classified as a public charity under Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi), and the effective date of exemption is June 3, 2026.
Contributions made to Friends of Ntshongweni Mission, Inc. on or after June 3, 2026 are deductible under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code to the extent allowed by law. The organization is also qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts under Sections 2055, 2106, or 2522.
State charitable solicitation registration
Friends of Ntshongweni Mission, Inc. is registered to solicit charitable contributions in Florida, its state of incorporation. Before conducting broad charitable solicitation campaigns in other states that require registration, we will complete the applicable registrations and post any required disclosures. If you would like a copy of a state registration or disclosure statement, please contact us at the address below.
How gifts are used
All gifts are used to support the four service areas described on this site: care for vulnerable children and families, education and skills development, health support services, and agricultural and food security projects in Ntshongweni, South Africa.
A small portion of donations may be used for reasonable administrative and fundraising costs necessary to operate the U.S. corporation and transmit funds safely. We report back to donors and supporters with photos, stories, and financial updates so you can see the impact of your gift.
Local partners and supported organizations
In addition to our relationship with the Ntshongweni Lutheran Church community, Friends of Ntshongweni Mission supports and connects with local South African charities and public Ntshongweni-related church sources that share our mission of serving the orphan and the widow.
Tax receipts and donation terms
No goods or services are provided in exchange for donations. Once a gift is received and transmitted to the field, it is final and non-refundable. We issue donation receipts reflecting the tax-deductible status of qualifying gifts.
